Canyon Creek Ranch

an exclusive Private Trophy Fishery

Myself, Jeff Perin, Garry Lewis of the TV show High Desert Outdoorsman, his daughter Tiffany and a camera crew ascended the banks of Canyon Creek Lake for a day of fishing.  Nestled amongst the majestic Painted Hills and the John Day fossil beds we made our way onto the ranch property. The Fly Fishers Place began booking this newly opened lake to the public back in April 2009, and it was my fist time to get out there since the ski season ended and trout season ramped up.  As you might imagine with such a high caliber fishery we had an exceptional day on the water with several large fish landed.  The lake has a mix of Triploid Rainbow trout ranging from 1 lb to well over 10lbs.  Back when the lake was being formed,  it is believed that migrating steelhead may have been indirectly trapped into the lake during the irrigation season and have now taken up residence here. There  must have been 4 of these land-locked steelhead that were caught in the course of the day.  We were also able to take a break from fishing the 10 acre lake to fish on the properties bass and blue gill pond, which made for even more exciting action.  This private water was a ton of fun and I look forward to my next visit.
